Scranton is the sixth-largest city in the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania behind Philadelphia, Pittsburgh, Allentown, Erie and Reading. It is the county seat of Lackawanna County in Northeastern Pennsylvania's Wyoming Valley and hosts a federal court building. With a population of 77,291, it is the largest city in the Scranton–Wilkes-Barre–Hazleton, PA Metropolitan Statistical Area, which has a population of about 570,000.
Scranton is the geographic and cultural center of the Lackawanna River valley, and the largest of the former anthracite coal mining communities in a contiguous quilt-work that also includes Wilkes-Barre, Pittston, and Carbondale. Scranton was incorporated on February 14, 1856, as a borough in Luzerne County and as a city on April 23, 1866. It became a major industrial city, a center of mining and railroads, and attracted thousands of new immigrants. It was the site of the Scranton General Strike in 1877.
People in northern Luzerne County began to seek a new county in 1839 but the Wilkes-Barre area resisted losing its assets. Lackawanna County did not gain independent status until 1878. Under legislation allowing the issue to be voted by residents of the proposed territory, voters favored the new county by a proportion of 6 to 1, with Scranton residents providing the major support. The city was designated as the county seat when Lackawanna County was established in 1878, and a judicial district was authorized for it in 1879.
The city "took its first step toward earning its reputation as the Electric City" when electric lights were introduced in 1880 at Dickson Locomotive Works. Six years later, the nation's first streetcars powered exclusively by electricity began operating in the city. Rev. David Spencer, a local Baptist minister, later proclaimed Scranton as the "Electric City".

yes because any community that helps with the care of the elderly is a great community
There is always something going on, and many ways for the community to grow with eachother. Its very easy to travel with the airport, ride share services ,the Colts bus system; or if you have the time for a leisurely stroll there are many beautiful places to find yourself. Nay aug is a beautiful park. Finding jobs seems to be exceedingly hard for a person from out of town though. It can be a bit discouraging to have really great qualifications and experience, then get an in person interview just to find out you didnt get the job time after time after time. All i want to do is help people and get back to work. I wish it wasnt so hard
I have a aunt who’s on her early 60s she has been in my care on and off over the past 15 yrs that I’ve lived in Pennsylvania I have worked with some of her closest friends and other relatives to ensure that they were recythe best care possible and if given the chance I know that I could be of help to many more older recipients and I would treat them all like family
Everyone is very friendly and welcoming. It's a perfect place for retirement and family.
I would strongly recommend this area for living as I have been a resident in the area my whole life. There is access to three local major hospitals as well as many quick care facilities. There are also a number of specialized facilities for groups in the community with various disabilities as well as many elderly care facilities.
The area has access to many shopping area and stores, a large public school system as well as several private schools.
There is access to various jobs as well as employment assistance centers to guide people through employment processes.
Transportation includes a bus system that offers various routes in and out of Scranton, as well as car service options such as Uber.
I have seen amazing community engagement opportunities that offer the community free events on a very regular basis. One such event is First Friday and there are many more that are open to everyone as well as specialized events that may target one demographic group. Neighborhoods tend to be very tight knit as well, with a sense of caring for your physical neighborhood as well as the people within.
As I said, I have lived here for my entire life and consider it a great place that I am raising my children in.
