There is a large old folks home down the street. Everything is in walking distance ( grocery, doctors, pharmacy) and the old folks are apart of the community going to cafes, music shows and all sorts of other events.

A densely developed community which is extremely walkable. Wide selection restaurants and ethnically diverse food shopping options. Lack of public transit except bus service. Ethnically diverse population (we have the only Muslim majority city council in the U.S.) which gets along pretty well for the most part. Local politics can be contentious at times, and budget is always an issue. There is a high degree of community involvement with many volunteer groups.
