Age Friendly: Care services for seniors, medical facilities nearby, paratransit service, public transportation, shopping, many parks and walking trails close-by. Pre COVID-19 Castro Valley had community events such as a farmer's market, local theater groups, many church activities, etc.
Not Age Friendly: Immediate neighborhood has very steep hills and almost all apartments require going up or down stairs - there are no elevators.
Great hospital, Eden Medical Center. Easy access to public transportation with its own BART (rapid transit) station. Close to freeways to surrounding cities. Housing is slightly less expensive than surrounding cities. Restaurant options are improving, but you can get to neighboring towns in 10-15 minutes for many more. There is a robust Rec department with classes for older adults and several senior centers.
